🇺🇸 US Nonfarm Payrolls Preview – August 1, 2025
Markets are bracing for a pivotal US labor report today, as Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) are expected to show a further cooldown in hiring, potentially confirming that the labor market is finally losing momentum.
According to economists, only 110,000 jobs were added in July — a slowdown from June’s 147,000 gain. The Unemployment Rate is expected to tick higher to 4.2%, up from 4.1%, while wage growth is projected at +0.3% MoM / +3.8% YoY, both slightly above June’s pace.

Despite a moderating jobs market, the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged earlier this week. Fed Chair Jerome Powell struck a hawkish tone, citing sticky inflation and resilient employment. Meanwhile, July’s ADP jobs report showed 104,000 private-sector job additions — supportive but modest. The JOLTS job openings fell to 7.43 million, the lowest since March 2021, raising concerns about slowing demand for labor.
